1964 Honda CT200 Refurbishment

Not quite winter yet, but starting staring back on the 1964 Honda CT200, Trail 90

Taking the best of the parts from 2 bikes and 3 engines to get a driving, survivor-ish looking ride.

This project has been placed on backburner several time, especially when the 71 Chevelle started in earnest.

Plan is to get it done before starting on the suspension bushings and such on the convert.

Thanks guy's,
I do need something to work on, especially in the winter.
Its nice to be able to push it off to the side if plans change but for now it is game on until it is drivable

Will let you know on occasion as we see how that turns out, hopefully it is faster than "replacing a gas tank and touching up a few spots on a Chevelle convertible body"rolleyes

Making progress again after enjoying the last gasp of warm weather. Mostly reworking the wiring and selecting the best parts (and also trying to find a few!).
The original engine is freed up, but the gears are stuck, so it on to non-numbers matching option B.

Yes it is good to have a project during these days.
The clincher when i decided to buy (rescue) this was the "Deer Hunter package" basically a slightly orange color and a gun rack.
It is the first year of production and I got it from the original owner.

Dang, original owner...did you get a window sticker, build sheet and POP with it ...laughing

Pretty cool with the hunter edition. I wasn't really into the small bikes back then and didn't know they made such a thing.

Thanks Chris S for the "Tela-Tech Support" on rebuilding, you make Carb rebuilds look so easy. Will probably take on a 4BL i have for the Chevelle sometime prior to spring thumbsup
I now have a running replacement engine, new chain and perhaps shortly, something that can go around the block a time or two before the snow fallsrolleyes

With a lot of OJT on the finer points of carburation theory, ( thanks again Chris) we now have a CT200 that will idle properly and with the choke open.
Apparently the tiny holes are in several hard to notice locations and all of them need to be openrolleyes

I watched the Houston Mecum Auction last weekend and about fell out of my chair when they ran the import mini/trail bikes across the block! 

They were either super nice survivors or fully restored with NOS parts, and sold at no reserve for anywhere between $3000 to $8000!!!

Yes Stan,
These old bikes are really going up in price.
Even projects with no title go quick on Marketplace and Craig's list
It was fun to drive it several blocks away to a friends house for a outdoor visit.
Looks like it will need a new "shift shaft seal" (try saying that fast 3 times), so I ordered that last night and it will be here next week.
Inspired by the success so far, I'm looking at making a off road bike from the left over parts and let the grand kids drive it at the cabin.
Is there such a thing as a "Rat-Bike"?

Very kool project Bruce! Of course there is a rat bike, you just may making the first one; the grand kids will love it.
Speedometer, I don't recall using one, ya just ran them at WOT.

Got a "Scabbard" today for the Honda, to complete the "Deer Hunter Edition" package.
Have no idea if it is actually correct or if there even was an official gun case.
Still TBD but this may be part of the Nomad's look at BBT50's, with the Honda hanging off the rear bumper.
May mount the "hoops" soon, hope the springs can take itrolleyes

Just finished up on a reupholstered seat (new cover and Pad, refurbished the rest)
Since it is a Motorcycle and a Honda... will just show the before and after.

The before shows all that was there to start with.


Needless to say, it a lot faster than a Chevelle interiorrolleyes

I was watching an old Mecum auction the other night. There were several Trail 70s that had never seen gas and sent for an average of $16,000. Used bikes that were actually ridden were going for $8-10,000. Looks like you have a nice bike and a good investment.

 Nope, There were 2 large auctions in FL over the last 3 weeks and the last one was a muscle car museum, letting go of over 200 Chev vehicles. The prices were INSANE on most everything that sold, and many were portrayed to be documented and proved fake !!! No understanding of what has happened to the muscle car market during an economic down turn and pandemic...doh

Yesterday I went ahead and got tabs for the Honda, we got this in 2013 and will actually be driving it a bit this summer.

Has a slight oil leak and smokes a little, close enough for now, the original engine is on the shelf and may be the one that gets rebuilt. Still TBD

Next thing is to try to get a running off road bike with the leftovers.

Replaced the shifter shaft seal and cover gasket on that side, no more oil leak, which is nicecool
