Read the book twice, I must be missing something. I have the tire rod removed and the two joints loose from the steering knuckle. Trying to remove the brake and drum assembly to the side to remove/replace lower ball joint. I can't get the assembly to clear the outside edge of the lower control arm so I can tie the assembly up and out of the way. What do I have to do, remove the steering arm from the backing plate? Need help, the sooner the better as I am at a stand still. Thanks.
do I have to remove the sway bar? Guess I better read again.

I seem to remember you have to knock the top ball joint loose so you can tilt the whole assembly way out at an angle and then you can slip it past the lower control arm and off the lower ball joint. But just trying to pull the lower joint straight down will not work.
I also took the knuckle loose from the top joint; but couldn't wiggle the assembly out of the way, although I was a video on you tube with the whole assembly out of the way; but that was on a camaro. So I took everything apart as Bob suggested.
I didn’t do this; but it’s appears that’s the only way to get a torque wrench on the spindle/steering knuckle. I just used a 2’ bar on top and a 3’ bar on the bottom and tightened as much as I could.
