Tomorrow, I will be mating the TH350 with the 292 for a trial fit, now that the torque tube is out of the way. Rear axle is a 1955 with 3.70 posi...cool

OK, the forum gets quite slow during the summer, so I thought I would throw it out.

If/when this sees a straight axle will be some time and it would be a low rise, not a nose high car. I don't care for that look either.

I have an S10 5 speed I picked up at Iola for it, but don't have time for a manual conversion this year. I'll take time over winter to gather parts to convert the trans to short input shaft and have everything ready for next year.

Besides assembling the Chevelle this fall, I'll be bringing the Camaro in for a winter "project". Pretty much a complete back half rebuild. I picked up a 1 piece trunk floor and new tail panel for it at Iola also...there's no end to the "fun" around here...doh

 "SPARE" time ???  I don't remember how I had time to work for 45 years...laughing

Now, if I just had a bunch of "spare" money, I could really get something done around here.

Got the TH350 mounted and snuck the combo in. ALMOST fit with the original crossmember, but the trans got wedged against the floor about 1" short of where it needs to be. The Davis Speed Equipment conversion motor mounts are dead on and fit really well ! I also ordered a set of plates to convert the original crossmember for the TH350, instead of a whole new crossmember. Cost a bunch less too.

The intake and carb have plenty of room, but the truck headers aren't even close...doh I ordered a set of cast split manifolds.

Then I swapped the dry rotted tires onto the Chevelle for when it goes for paint. These 275/60R15 tires on 15x7 wheels fit great ! There is a lot of room in the wheel houses for a wide tire.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around mr. Big block playing with a 6 Cyl.

 It's not exactly your Grandmother's 6 cylinder...laughing  492 lift cam, big valves in the head and .060 milled off for 9.5 compression...razz

It was originally built for the '52 flat bed for hauling cars, but that changed when I bought the roll back.

I don't think that 3.70 posi is going to be the ideal ratio for that motor or the first gear of that s-10 trans in the grand scheme of things?? But I understand it is what you had, would the typical nova 8.5 ten bolt fit under that car?

 It will have the TH350 from the street rod for now. I can see the 5 speed being a couple years down the road.

As for a Nova/Camaro axle, I think they do fit well with a spring/mount relocation conversion, but I think the current rear will hold up to the 6 cylinder for now. Yeah, I was told the ratio was 3.31 or .55 when I bought the assembly. Slightly disappointed in the 3.70, but it should be fun for 1320 feet. I actually really like the drop out 3rd member. I can have a couple of them on hand and change things when I want, unlike the integral they went to in '65 and never looked back...doh

It's all temporary anyway. I just want to get the 292 running, as it has sat for 3 years after a fresh rebuild, and having the car move under it's own power will be nice.

I'm waiting on an axle bearing and trans mount kit, so it got kicked out of the shop again today....see the Chevelle thread...thumbsup
