Rear Upper Trunk Crossmember Replacement.

As some of you may know, I am replacing the upper trunk crossmember.  Due to the generosity of parts and help from Mitch, Karl, Randy, and Keith . I wonder if anyone would care to comment on what I can use to make sure rust doesn't come though the on the upper trunk pan.  I about 6 hrs stripping it of paint and rust with a drill and a 3M rust removal disc; but there are some little spots left that I wonder if I can just treat and paint.  Here is a photo.  I also am adding a few photos from the start to the present.

Rust never sleeps do the best you can and seal it up as tight as you can. The bad part is welding will burn off paint /primer so unless you plan to dip the entire car I have no ideas.

I have used POR15 many times. Once I painted a rusty battery tray, and it lasted about 5 years.

When originally built it was all bare metal, then welded together.
Clean it to shiny bare metal, 80-150 grit, including the floor replacement patch.
Prime and paint except for weld flange, An etch primer, then color topcoat, primer is not waterproof.
Or, use por-15 or rustoleum.
Keep weld flange clean (as you have) dust with weld thru primer.
Paint all exposed surfaces

There are no holes in the crossmember, so you may have to drill holes in floor, or each end at wheelhouse. Size holes for rustproof style plugs.
Many aerosol rustproof sprays can be applied with a wand purchased separately.
This won't last as long as the pyramids, but will outlast our generation, particularly if stored in dry location and used only on nice days!

Remember, we rarely subject our toys to the nasty part of our weather systems.
Bare metal, air and water, do not mix well.

Karl

P.S. Beautiful wood work!!!!
