1969 Chevelle SS396 Grill question
Permalink

I am finishing a 1969 SS396 L78 Chevelle Convertible.  I am changing the grill components out.  I have noticed a wide variety of Chevelle SS396 grills pertaining to the raised silver highlights.  Some have the grill highlighted, some have the outer extensions highlighted and some have no silver highlights.  The repops that I received have a all black grill with highlighted extensions.  The 69 sales literature shows all black.  I have chosen to paint the extensions and go with all black.  I have seen many photos of a wide variety of SS396 and Mailibus with all silver and just the extensions.  Also the repop had a silver stainless center piece on the main grill that my original did not come with, only silver painted center piece.  It adds a lot to the look.  Any insight would be helpful, I am retaining Factory looks with an improved suspension/drive train.. Can't wait for spring....

This is what I have done with mine. I think 69SS is the same.

Mine looks the same as Jon's.  I could go get a picture later today if you need it?

I appreciate the input.  I was wondering if there was differences at the plants or Malibu vs. SS396.  I have looked at many online photos and there are a wide variety of combinations.  I like the original 1969 sales brochures that show the SS396's have all blacked out highlights.  I'm not going for a pure stock OEM look, but they sure do look different, especially the all silver highlighted cars with the grill and extensions highlighted. come on summer....

Did you use Repo grill and extensions on your car?  I chose to black out the extensions on mine...How do you add photos to your reply?

When the "reply" window opens, there is an "Attach Files" button under the preview button that opens your directory. Click on photos and then open the file and click on the pic you want to post. Click the "Open" button and it loads up. Then you need to click the [insert] button for it to appear.

OR use a host site, like Photobucket or another. After uploading the pics to the host site, you can post them here too.DSCN0580.JPG

Sorry to steal your post, I know nothing about 69's. Just thought posting pictures was a pain.

Actually it's a lot faster for me from Photobucket, as I load them there for other forums anyway. 2 clicks on there and the pic is here.
