I finished a project I have been working on for a while. After reading about the Grand Cherokee steering box upgrade I decided to put power steering in the car. I am tired of the 4 turns lock to lock of the stock manual steering. I went to U-pull right by the house and got a steering box, got a power steering pump from Stan, and a mounting kit from CPP. The CPP kit is a generac mount for any small block Chevy, so I had to customize a bit to work with my alternator in the stock location. Belt clearance and alignment were the time consuming parts as I am unsure how much room a belt needs for deflection and vibration. I went and got ice cream tonight and it seems ok. I attached some pictures, sorry I didn't get any "in process" pics, I was wrapped up in the project.
You went from the stone age steering to almost modern car steering with that change. If yours is anything like mine, you probably can't believe the change to the JGC box.
That pulley does look close to the belt, but I've run similar clearance without any issues. You could try to space the power steering pulley out a hundred thousandths or so just to give it a little safety factor without causing any major belt misalignment IMO.
John E.-I gave Chris S. the power steering pump that came off your '70 Elky, so even more parts are being shared around the club now.

I went 1/4 inch shorter on the ps belt last night to move the pulley away from the steering box. It was making me nervous. I took It for ice cream again last night, I'm much more comfortable with it now. My wife is enjoying all the test rides to get ice cream!
