Need Help Setting Up My Functional Cowl Induction Hood

I have been working on setting up the functional cowl induction hood on my SS.  I currently have the outer and inner flapper installed and they move freely.

When I try to mount the vacuum actuator and bracket, the bracket seems to keep interfering with the movement inner flapper and the bracket appears to be hitting the mounting bracket of the inner flapper. 

I do have a factory assembly manual, but it really does not give any instruction on how to install the actuator assembly.

FYI - I am doing this with the hood install

I have the following questions:

1). On the hood, where the actuator bracket mounts by the inner flapper, am I suppose to be using some type of speed nut where that extra metal bracket is on the hood to secure that end of the actuator bracket or use the threaded holes in the hood?  I see in factory manual, it calls out a nut assembly (item 10) but it really does not show where it goes.  I am trying to mount the actuator bracket using the threaded holes in the hood.

2). I have not tried to shim the actuator bracket yet.  Is that my problem?  If I shim the bracket, the inner flapper will have enough room to fully open.

 

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

I needed up getting out the Dremel and grinding off part of the inner flap frame, cut off about 1/8" of the vacuum actuator mount and had to notch the inner flapper for the bolts that mount the vacuum actuator.

 

My bodyman says that I could be having these problems due to the mix/match of aftermarket parts.  I do not know whose cowl hood I have and I bought the induction pieces from a distributor on the web.

 

This probably would not have been so bad if checked things out before the hood was installed and painted.  But, I have been ordering parts as I have needed them.  Live and learn.

Lesson learned; always, always and I mean always, fit and assemble every piece down to the last bolt, washer and nut BEFORE paint.

THEN, take it all apart down the last nut and bolt, have painted and not be able to find the bolts to re-assemble...laughing

I've heard that's how it works.....no personal experience with that process.....clonk
