New shoes for the Malibu

Just when parts were starting to get happy with each other after the reassembly thrash on the vert, I was at a show and found a deal on wheels and tires that I couldn't pass up.  Needless to say, the rims were a very good deal, and I found a set, yes a set of tires for less than the cost of one tire in the swap meet!  nana

The wheels are 17X7 and 17X8 Showheels brand (from Australia) that are made for 50's, 60's, and 70's vintage muscle cars, so the backspacing is good.  The Goodyear tires were taken off a Dodge Magnum with about 20K miles on them, and other than one with slight cupping, they are in great shape.  I like the 'old skool' 5 spoke ET type mag look with the modern size.

A couple of teaser pics from my cell phone, as I will add better ones later:

Of course there had to be a problem installing them... when a lug nut cross threaded when removing the old rear rims.  With the stud spinning, the only  option I had was to take the air grinder to it and cut it off.  That was after trying other methods, but I did get it off without damaging the old rim, which was a relief.  Speaking of which, I'm keeping the old rims/tires so I can swap back to the 'stock' look in 30 min. or less.

What do ya think?

Very nice! The tires look pretty tall... how far off is the speedo now?

The tires are 215's, and about 1.5-1.75" taller than what I took off (I think 27" tall?).  The speedo reads 10 mph high, but that's better than what it was.  The rpm dropped  about 250 at 70 mph, so  now I'm running about 2750 instead of 3K+, which is better.

The speedo gear in the trans is the red one, which is supposed to be right for 3.08 gears which I have, but it's still reading high.  Using the GPS as my speedo now...

Use this link Stan if you want to try and correct your speedometer. I would bet John and Master might have gears to get you set up for an old Th350 trans.

Had a nice mostly overcast morning today, so I ran out to the Dakota Co. Fairgrounds and snapped a few pics to get a better look at the new shoes:

 Once you get a color/number for drive/driven gear, post it here. I might still be able to get you one, or at least the part number.

~~~~~PERFECT~~~~
The next set of rear tires could stand to be wider but the wheels are killer....thumbsup
NOW, as Chris said, where do we get these great looking bargains ?????
Thanks Ron and everyone for the positive comments.  I really like them other than wanting a little wider rubber in the back but I can do that after the tread gets worn down from slippage....  gearbanger
I think the fair grounds are open all the time as far as that side where the buildings are.
