looking for a reliable daily driver

Hi guys!

I am helping a 22 year old friend of mine find a good, reliable daily driver. She has around $7000 to spend and needs to pick something up in the next week. Anyone have anything available? Also looking for suggestions on makes/models and where to shop. I have a few ideas, but would appreciate help from other car enthusiasts!

Thanks! Cindy

Greenfield, MN

Hi Cindy.  What part of the metro is she looking in?

I've had good luck with Apple Valley Ford in Apple Valley for their used cars.  That's where I bought my 2003 GMC truck that was 8 years old at the time, and it's turned out to be a very good vehicle.  It had turn signal issues when I first bought it, and they covered all the repairs.  They also gave me their rate to get the drivers seat bottom cushion reupholstered, so good to work with them.

Nothing to add but thanks to Stan, AV Ford is part of my dealer family.

With that price, location will definately help. Anything she needs to have specifically (4 door, 4 cyl, etc?)

She lives in West St. Paul but would be willing to go anywhere in the metro especially if it was a good car. No requirements other than reliable, not going to nickel/dime her. Probably smaller engine/better gas mileage.

Looking around everything I see has over 100k miles is there a worry with that? Or is that the norm these days?

Thanks Stan I sent her to the Apple Valley Ford website.

Thanks Jim for the PM I really appreciate your input on makes/models.

Bryan any help is greatly appreciated!

When I was with Nissan, I was amazed at how few came in for major repairs like suspension, engine, etc. Even being the largest wholesale supplier of parts for them, we still did very little with mechanical parts. I wouldn't hesitate to put my kid in one (when she's old enough). I hit car soup up and got a bunch that were under $7000 within 25 miles of Burnsville (I knew the zip code). Newest was an 06.

I'm partial to the chevys, the Malibu is a decent sized car that I don't get too many calls for mechanicals on. Looks like 70+ ones up to 2007 for under $7000. The Cobalt is going to be cheaper and a little better on mileage, but it seems like I get more calls on them. The Pontiac G6 is ok, but stay away from the 2006 model, almost every call I get for one happens to be for that particular year???
