Sooooo...is this a good idea or not?!? Can I use plain old spray paint or do I have to use the engine paint? I want to paint them and the frame just below the doors to bring out the blue flames and maybe the blue in the paint too.

They are brake parts so a high temp paint is your best bet.

I painted my drums on the 65 probably 8-9 years ago with regular satin black paint and they still look like new. Not sure about calipers, there might be more heat.

Yea, I didn't think that much heat would be generated in the rear brake drums. What is the worse that could happen in the front calipers if I use regular paint? Of course the perfect blue I am looking for does not come in engine paint!

 The paint will darken and probably peal off...dunno

I don't know if it's VHT or Dupli-color, but they market a rattle can of stuff specifically for calipers. Don't know the color offerings, but I saw it at NAPA.

I'm with Dan.  Save yourself a few bucks and use std. rattle can on the rear drums.  Been doing it for years, and never had an issue.  Unless you're doing major braking events, they don't get hot enough to discolor or flake off of the drums.

I now have 7 different cans of blue of which 2 are engine paint 1 of which John highlighted. I will throw some on a piece of metal, wait till it dries and see how it looks. Thanks for all the input guys. I think it will look great but you will have to wait until next year to see it. I am wondering if I should paint my fuel tank blue. Right now it is just cleaned up good with no goo or paint on it which I kind of llike.
