Thank God it only scuffed the fender a bit. Being it appears to not broken through the clear coat what should I use to buff it up a bit? I think rubbing compound is not necessary and polishing compound still too harsh. Should I just use a paste wax and should I apply it by hand or use the buffer on a low setting?

I would try a light compound such as Meguirs consumer grade ultimate compound. It would definitely take out scuff marks and light scratches.A DA buffer would be easier that by hand, if you need one you can use mine. Be careful with a high speed rotary buffer so you don't get swirl marks.

Its impossible to answer this without at least some photos showing us what your dealing with. I take it you dont have classic car type insurance. Thier number one concern is that the car has a garage to park in, in order to get insured.

2nd the Meguire's "Ultimate" compound (on the shelf at NAPA).
I recently did some rattle can painting in the garage, a nice bright blue. Had the big door up so I wouldn't gas myself. I moved Blackie out of the garage & down the driveway - no good. Had nice little micro-speckles all over the hood!!

Used the Meguire's with a soft terry hand towel and soon had a blue rag, no speckles, and a mirror hood with no swirls. Good Stuff!

SOLD - I wil pick some up today and apply it by hand. I am sure it will work as I said it did not break through the clear coat.

They didn't have any on the shelf so I checked my shelf. I had some sample bottles of Wizards products.

I first used the Finish Cut, http://www.wizardsproducts.com/store/catalog/Finish-Cut-Compound-32-oz-p-18.html

then the Turbo Cut, http://www.wizardsproducts.com/store/catalog/Turbo-Cut-Compound-32-oz-p-19.html

and it looks good!

Yea, I was not too happy to come home to that one day. It seems my poor car is getting beat on by many sources, even got my first door ding a couple weeks ago.
