Dropped my 5 SS wheels off at Dependable Tires in Savage to get blasted, primed and powder coated. Price quote was $30 a wheel. Color options were limited and there wasn't one similar to the stock color. Went with the gloss black. Should be done next week. I took a few pics of two of them prior to heading down there. The charcoal one was the spare behind the seat in the El Camino and I believe was the original finish but not sure since there is a run in the paint. The other 4 that were on the El Camino had been painted black. Will also post the after photos.
The Charcoal wheel is original and many had runs from the factory. The price is plenty reasonable but I would've painted them over pc to get the original color. I bought a set of 4 aftermarket center caps and they are extremely hard to snap on without denting and then are loose and rattle !!!
Mitch where did you buy the center caps from? Gearlube said the caps and rings he bought worked well and look nice. I'm trying to get opinions on who has had good or bad luck with the trim rings and caps from various vendors before I purchase any.
I think black looks good on your car Mike, goes with the Nickey stiping. BTW, where's the backward K key on the keyboard? You can always repaint the wheels later when the body gets repainted.

30 bucks a wheel is a great deal. Its a lot of work just to sandblast a wheel so thats a pretty good price. Ive never heard of this place before, sounds like a place well worth checking out.

I got them from Hinshaws. I don't remember the name on the package, but it's the same brand I see on all the websites. Next time I'm in the shop, I'll check.
I hadn't heard the term, but what I can find it means it is a lug hole-centric style of balancing vs a hub-centric. Most decent shops will have a special cone with "studs" which will insert into the lug holes and balance the wheel that way. I would avoid a road force or load force balancing since it will most likely say it won't pass.

Any good shop that sells tires should be able to balance your tires just fine. After working the last 20 years in the automotive field, I have yet to ever see or work at a shop that didnt have wheel balancer that didnt do a decent job at balancing your tires. Ive balanced plenty of those wheels in my days without ever needing any special equipment.

Got the tires mounted and balanced on the rims today. Set the nicest trim ring and cap I have on one of them just to see how it would look. A couple of the rings have dents and/or curb rash. Caps are ok but faded. Debating between buying aftermarket replacements or running the rings and caps I've got and maybe scrounging up a few nicer trim rings. Now I need to find a good used BF Goodrich radial T/A to put on the 5th rim for a spare. Hoping to find a 225/60 15 like the front tires but anything close would do.
Ordered a set of reproduction trim rings and center caps today for my wheels. I also ordered a few other small parts. Now that the car is going to see the road again this summer I will need to start spending a little money on it here and there.
The wheels look good now and will be great with the trim on them.
As for the rockers coming loose, it's possible the lock screws weren't tightened after the last adjustment.
Maybe Chris can spray bomb the frame black while on the lift to cover the overspray...
That car really deserves a nice body prep and paint. Very little for obvious repair issues. The right quarter behind the tire has possible crash damage with slide hammer holes and filler, but other than that, I didn't see much else...
