Finally Found It!!

For like practically forever I've had this ANNOYING, "jingling" sounding rattle in the rear of the car. No kidding, it sounded like a muffler clamp loose on a pipe tinkling around under there.

At first I thought it was the tailgate straps rattling around. Nope, solved that possibility (and an issue with one) at the same time.

Every little crack in the road and "Jing"... angry Well I was bound and determined to find the little bugger and fix his business...Imgonna

Yesterday I ran to NAPA to get some oil and an air filter for the Toro and all the synapses were together. I finally put the correlation of "Jingle Jingle" while cruising, but NOT while braking!!

Turns out that the driver's side rear "anti-rattle" clip (aptly named) on the brake pad had broken/left town/taken the train/whatever, and the pad was (you guessed it) "jingling" around in there until the piston clamped it.

PadClips.jpg These little buggers snap into a groove around the piston, and the lower hooks grab the bottom of the pad - keeping upward force against the caliper.

A new set of these, a liberal bead of the orange "disc brake quiet" shmutz, and (I hope) my annoyance is gone!

(Of course "project creep" set in and out came the masking tape, paper, and red paint... and the calipers got a fresh coat).

I'm sure you feel better finding that noise!  I have a 'squeek' on the passenger door panel that drives me nuts.  It only seems to happen when there is a passener, so I don't know if the panel is being leaned on or what.  I need to take off the panel and check it out.  I suspect a door planel clip is rubbing in it's hole making the noise.  I think there's supposed to be a plastic ring that the clip seats into to avoid these types of noises.

It's amazing how the little things can bug a guy with these cars.

Let's see some pics of the red calipers!

Before resorting to "rip & tear", get a can of silicone spray, hose down a rag, and wipe all of the gaskets and the edges of the door panel. Go for a drive. I had a vinyl to vinyl squeeek that was fingernails on a chalkboard x10... it was the door panel against the pinch molding. The silicone cured it.

you guys would hate to ride in my car. I tune out such noises. They might be gone, I don't even know anymore. Can't hear them.

Ive always taken the approach that if there is a noise coming from under the car, I have to fix it as its more of a mechanical noise. You never know, any sort of noise you hear underneath could leave you stranded or cost a bunch more money if ignored. However, interior squeaks I can deal with as they dont really bother me much. Im not really intrested in having it as quiet as a Lexus inside unless its really nerve wracking. But I dont like rattles and sounds outside the car.

My hearing is so bad that I don't know I have an annoying squeak/rattle/clink until someone rides in the vehicle....rolleyes By the time it's loud enough for me to hear it, it's really bad.

Try John Ds suggestion. I have a 2010 Tahoe that always sqeeked at low speeds. Drove me absolutely crazy. Had it in the shop under warranty way to many times. I won't even mention all of the things they did to try and fix it. Finally a service writer figured it out. GM has a graphite solution that runs about $75 for a tiny (less than 1 oz I think) little bottle. I now just use a good pure silicone and wipe down all of the seals periodically and no problems.
