I put the battery in the '66 this morning and was going to cruise around the block. Once inside, I remembered I had a new shifter with the correct lever for it. I also obtained a correct hump and carpet over the winter, so I dug into that.

Existing carpet and high hump.

New shifter installed with the correct hump.

Impossible to photograph black carpet with just the flash. I will wait till it settles for a while and then cut the hole for the carpet guard I have to finish it off. Drove it around the block finally and the new shifter handle is way better than the old one. The old one didn't have a replaceable handle to change and it was too far forward in 3rd.

Very nice. How did the carpet fit?

Not well. It fits baggy around the tunnel and the jute backing was folded over in 2 places making ridges. I cut off the ridges so the jute would lay flat. I had to do all this with the first carpet that I just removed too. The quality control is not good.

That's about the same issues I've had in the past. I went to a fabric store and bought more jute and built up the tunnel under the carpet. It did make it better.

That's a good idea. I may have to pull it out and do that. One problem is I am not using the floor mounted throttle pedal to pull it down tight. I installed a Lokar cable pedal that hangs from the firewall like a '70.
