I love Hot Rods. In fact last month when a few of the guys were over I showed that what I would like to do after the Chevelles. There is a 1934 Plymouth 2 door sedan that I have my eye on.

On the Chevelles the more I get into doing this the more details come out and the more I want to get it as right as possible. From the SS wheels having 3 colors of paint to the 5 colors on the steering box, date coded glass etc. it just grows and grows.

I hope it all turns out the way I want it too but I'll take whatever it is in the end.

I put a deadline on this one to be done by May 6th and June 3rd for the 70. If I have to take longer to get them right I will but I really want to have one to drive for a while. I do have to help get the race car finished and a Shovelhead to freshen up so we can sell it this next month and of course a grandson to play with.

I just have always used FatMat. I look for the thickest product out there and get it. FatMat has been one of the thicker ones and is priced competitively. I put two layers on the firewall and floors except under the seats.

I have a documented '70 SS 396 that needs meticulous attention like that. TH400, buckets, console, A/C, stereo radio and POWER door locks. Look them up and see how many were installed. Fathom Blue on Black. Very early build.....3rd week of September, 1969.

Oh I'd have no problem with that. The only thing is it may be old news if I keep filling the site up with all the junk I've been posting about it.

I'm going to bore the heck out of you guys with this post. Finished up the heater this morning. Blasted all the little parts last night and painted them. Previous post hows the before and during of the boxes. Had to stop for lunch.. but now back to work.

Did that with the '66 last winter. Getting the foam on the flapper door is a real treat.

You are more meticulous than me. Where did you find the correct color for the 2 core brackets ? I just painted mine a color I had here...Charcoal Grey.

I was going to use a mix John D suggested until my airbrush took a dump. I was at Menards and found this.

While cleaning the speedometer I found a date stamped on the back of it. December 14 1968. Got the heater in and did a bunch of detailing of little parts. Here are a couple.

I used a lot of the 2X Satin Clear in the engine compartment and interior of the '66 over the paint to help prevent scratches. It goes on very thick but flashes quickly and doesn't run as easily as it seems it would. Nice satin sheen without glare or reflection.
Kinda crazy that we detail parts that no one will ever see again. I painted my vent flaps too and they are hidden from view behind the grilles...

It's not really "detailing"... it's part of the reconditioning/restoration to "as new" condition. They'll function as new parts - I look at it as a PM (periodic maintenance) that's about 40 years overdue!

I was thinking the same thing when I was hand painting the rivets on the cowl flaps but I would agree with John on the "reconditioning/restoration to "as new" condition"

I figure why not do as much as I can. Every once in a while I have to back up and do something I forgot like painting the backside of the tail light housings because they protrude into the trunk and they can be seen when you look in the trunk. I had the housings in and took them back out to paint them and the nuts that hold them in.

Guess I'm a bit nuts

Non Chevelle related but the 67 Camaro we restored last year won first place in two catagories at Motorhead Madness (aka World of Wheels) in Duluth. It won 1st place for all cars 1958 to 1968 and for all years Restored Class. It was on the news Friday night. There is also a magazine who will be doing a story on it. There were about 150 cars at the show.

I removed the old seat covers and blasted the frames then shot them in epoxy. I'll paint the seat frames and springs in a silver color tomorrow then install the burlap, cotton batting and seat covers. I came to realize that there are a gazillion hog rings in the seats and that removing them will give you blisters.

I also fixed the original dash with a epoxy plastic.

Got the cam degreed in the 505 yesterday it's within a a degree of spec. Ran a tap through all the holes in the 427. Got all the engine parts for the 427 including the solid cam. Will be honing it and decking it in the next week so it can start going together. I really hope to beat the CAC count down meter but ya never know...

Finally got to see Gearlubes Camaro on Sunday. I have to say it sure is nice and the color really pops! Nice car Tom

Dang, I was thinking of running up to that show and then forgot all about it.... With the crappy weather Saturday, it would've been a perfect time.
Congrats on the the prizes, after all, you did the work...

After watching a pro tear down and reassemble a couple seats, I know I won't be doing that myself. Lots of work and tricks to getting them to look right.

You're right, having someone pull it back apart and redo it isn't the end of the world.

It will be getting F70 14 polyglass tires eventually. But my wife's vette has MT Street / Strip tires that I will "borrow" once in a while when she's not around to find out

Well after about 5 weeks of pulling off the Chevelles to work on race cars, a start up business and many other projects I finally am back at it. Painting the 70 in the next day or so and putting the 69 together are back on my radar. I'll post pictures as I go.

Got a nice 12 bolt dated coded housing from Derek last weekend and got to look at some neat cars.

So Dave a new buffer is back in action.

I think I'll have a dyno session this week or very early next on the 427. We balanced it and blue printed it. It is a solid lifter cam and has all the parts that the COPO would have except bumped the cam a little... With Bryan's help on the part numbers I found a NOS set of correct head bolts.

Dyno on the 427 was today. 500HP dead on the nuts and 460 plus on torque. Looking forward to the dyno on the 505 next.

I don't think you're going to want those skinny polyglass tires on there. It will look like a dog chasing it's tail when you stick your foot in it....

I don't think it will be a problem cause it will have to spin both tires with the posi in it.

I have a second set of SS rims with daily driving tires T/A's.

Picked up the engine and paperwork. Correction 502.2 HP. Stock Holley carb.

before and after a little excitement with one of my kids I got some work done on the rearend I got from Derek. Should get some guts in it, new bushings and brakes this week.

I think the real rewarding part is how much they enjoy working or spending time with dad or granddad around cars.

Thanks guys. I have a lot to do yet so it will be a push. I have to upholster the seats, door glass, interior, install the 12 bolt, rear brakes and a bunch of other stuff. At least I have the week off of work so I can try and get it done and thank goodness for AC in the shop.

Placed one last order (famous last words) with NPD today so I should have that stuff tomorrow.

I'm trying but I ain't no John D miracle worker.

I tried but failed to get done for NSP, I had a shifter issue, wrong one and I need to shorten the driveshaft.

I have to keep telling myself not to cut corners trying to hurry the project along as far as finishing the little pieces. I;ve refinished abiut every nut and bolt from the start and I want to be sure to get them all done.

I have the interior to finish, front turn signals and a few pieces of trim to install. That's about it but it seems I always find another little thing that needs to be done.

I was installing the door glass the other day and thought about Dashboard when I removed the bolts that hold the glass to the tracks.

Brakes, sure am glad I bought the blasting cabinet. I got the 12 bolt all rebuilt new bearings, seals ect and the 4:10 gears.

Between the gears and the M22 it should sound just like a washing machine coming down the road.
