John, we ran into most of the same problems and TOLD Speedway about them. I see nothing was changed. The only thing the instructions are good for is starting a fire...angry We couldn't get the belt on at all and I sent it back for a refund. We cut the old belt, routed it around the pulleys and measured the gap. I went to NAPA and got a belt that fit.

We eliminated the plastic shroud from the alt. It's only there to direct air. Without it, the sensor terminal and headers will fit nicely. The guy I was working with on the Camaro actually removed the PS pulley to install the alt and bracket. We had to have custom PS hoses made to mate with the '88 T-bird power rack. They were expensive and still hard to route. Pertek in St. Paul made them.

I cant see how Speedway or whom ever manufactures that kit hasnt got a bunch of complaints on that excuse for an instruction sheet. But its like you say, Instructions? All you need is an exploded view. They dont appear to have even gave you that either.

I notice your engine block and transmission case look like new in latter pictures, what did you use to clean them up? Did you then treat or paint them?

I think I used some diluted simple green to clean it up. The paint is Rustelom Stainless steel enamel. I used to have a cast aluminum paint that match real aluminum but cannot find it anymore and this was something a little different...

Rerouted the belt using the existing pulley setup. It has a much better wrap around the pulleys. Now to figure an ac mount.

All you need is:


(2) M10-1.50x50 bolts
(2) 10mm flat washers
(2) 10 mm wave lockwashers
(1) 770K6 belt (77 inch belt)

The tensioner was in the mid range versus max compressed. If you ran under-drive pulleys, the original belt would fit.

Sorry,

I have been occupied finishing the EFI install on my 64. Just a few more things and I can start on the elky.

I did pick up a mint dash that was not cracked. The mocked up one cracked from being twisted and the airbag blow.
