Scott, If that 348 has the original vacuum operated 3x2 setup, you might want to consider going with a progressive linkage. I've talked to a few guys with 348s that have switched and they said they'll never go back.

That is the plan! My Dad isn't into fast cars, so he had the two end carbs blocked off and it just runs on the center 2 bbl. You all know that simply will not do anymore. Mechanical linkage will happen!

Between work and being sick on and off Ive lost all focus and ambition on the car...
Got a couple days off .....so Im going out to the garage to assess the nightmare Ive created...

Dragging stuff home is one level of the sickness.... Leaving it in piles and never putting anything together is the other end..LOL

Eh, you have a few months to organize and re-focus now. As you saw in my "shop" I have MANY piles of parts for 5 cars waiting...rolleyes

I probably missed it, but I never heard if you got the air compressor and blasting cabinet you were looking at.

Bought the compressor but have not plumbed or wired it.. waiting on the cabinet for tax time this spring hopefully. Then Ill get the whole system up and running.. Thats the plan at least.

Mitch stopped by today.. it quickly became apparent the we cannot shorten the length of the tie rod assembly short enough without cutting off some of the threaded end of the tie rods.. The solid adjuster sleeves wont let them thread in far enough.. Ill have to call a couple of friends and see if they have a good chop saw....

I don't think the steel on tie rod ends is hardened to anything over the level of "regular" mild steel.

Are the parts you're working on the RH or LH thread? If RH, you could get a nut of the correct size, spin it on, and lop off the excess with a hacksaw (using a good/fresh blade). Once cut, "dress" the end with a file or grinder and spin the nut off to chase the threads.

It sounds like your tires are toed way positive and need to be adjusted inwards.  Are you able to lock the steering wheel somehow so it stays level? (Without using the locking column to keep it locked).

 Chris.. Appaerntly this is a common problem when using the Moog replacement tie rod ends and a SOLID ajuster.. the solid adjusters have apinch in the midle and I think the moog ends might be just a bit longer than stock..

Made an appointment with a local repair shop for an alignment today... Carver repair... Told them exactly what I had on Monday.. Got there today and They have an alginment rack from like 1952.. No way my car with headers and a deep sump oil pan was going to clear.. Wish they would have told me when I made the appointment.. another day wasted.

Call Dave at Centerline in Vadnais Heights. They can get it on their rack. We have street rods fairly often.
