Looking for gm 3767556 which is the packing material that goes between the exhaust manifold and the extension that slides into the head pipe as the connection point .
Currently I am just using a donneut ring to seal that area. Is there anything better. This would probably be the same on all the 60's BB.
Actually I am referring to the donut or packing material. I have the sleeve and am using the donut to seal the area. However originally was a special packing material instead of the donut.

Do you think in the 60s that part was made out of asbestos?
Classic Muscle shows a 2 1/2 pipe packing number 2746GM
NAPA shows it too, number FPG 9587
Yes, it was most likely an asbestos compound originally.
I ordered 2746 gm, I got 3731062, which is a steel sleeve; but its to small. I think it is for 2" pipe, so their catalog is wrong or they sent me the wrong piece.
They also had a 2743GM that says it is a steel sleeve, 2 1/2" @ $20 each. From the photo it looks to be a combination of a steel sleeve and someother material.
The Napa product is what i put in a couple of years ago and was looking to replace with something better.

I'd be on the phone asking them what the heck is going on when you order a part from the catalog and what you get doesn't match. I think they would be willing to make it right for you. I got burned a few times the same way and now I never just order on-line. I always talk to a real person to see if the parts are what they describe and are actually in stock. If you ordered it over the phone and it's still wrong, then they need to make a correction.
I allways order from the phone with Classic Musclel, usually a guy by the name of Mike. I plan to call when I get around to it. I would like to have gotten the 2743; but that was so expensive; because it has been discontinued, so ordered the 2746. Probably will ask mike to look at the 2743 and the 2746 and tell me the differences. For now I ljust put in the napa product. Thanks.
I had to actually look in NPD's online Chevelle catalog to see what this gasket looks like. I didnt realize they call it "packing". My 66 didnt have manifolds on it so the term Packing didnt make any sense to me. From the looks of it, it doesnt look like any sort of a special gasket, I would try seeing what you find locally. Even if you have to try a place like auto city classic. Or, if its the same gasket as the Corvette. Larry might even have these in stock. Although, the Corvette manifold is completly different so the gasket may not be the same. I cant imagine a parts store wouldnt have this gasket and I doubt the quality would be any worse then getting one from a repro catalog. Accept of course you pay double and have to wait to have it shipped.

While you guys were busy arguing about the glass of water. I drank it!
I know most Chevy dealers should stock a donut that might work, though I am not sure if it's going to be the 2.5" diameter or smaller. I didn't get a chance to look today at them. Corvette Spec would be a good place to check because they would have used 2.5" double tapered "donut" for that. Otherwise any performance exhaust place should also ahve it or could get it through US Autoforce (US Tire and exhaust)

Thanks guys. I do have the donut style gasket in there now. I was looking for something better. Should have thought of the corvette venders, do they have a 2 1/2" head pipes?
