Starting to clean up engine bay for paint need to know how to remove grill in one piece.

Hoping this gets done in a couple off weeks.  I want to remove the forward light harness and grill.  Does anyone know where one might find the grommets for the harness in the radiator support?  Has anyone remove the grill in one piece with the lights housing attached; but left the filler panel in place?  Thanks

Going from memory.
Remove bolts Hood latch plate, side brackets at grille and lamp mtg. panel, (thru core support), center support, remove center support Turn and drop to floor.
Upper tie bar bolts to fender edge at lamp mtg. panels remove bolts, remove bolts through lower valance panel.
Valance panel will still be hanging from fenders.

If you want to keep together, bumper must be removed.
If bumper is off, then you can use plan B.
Loosen two bolts at top of hood latch, remove one bolt bottom hood latch support, one bolt each end upper tie bar, same each end of grille filler, two bolts through core support at headlamp mounting panel bracket.
There are bolts that also go through lower grille panel to fender wheelhouse that need to be removed.
Best if you have two people to carefully wiggle out assembly after you remove latch bolts.
It helps also if Lamp mount panels are loose also.

I would first unplug headlamps to separate harness.
Take that out separately, as there are many other things to unplug and disconnect.
Ie: ground wires, horns, voltage regulator, turn lamps etc.

The Factory riveted the grille to upper tie bar and side brackets to core support, otherwise everything else is just bolted together.

Remember, keeping things together is NOT always the best plan.
I think i have it mostly covered.

Just keep taking stuff apart till you are where you want to be.
Mitch can correct me if i missed something.

Got it done Karl, thanks.  I had to grind off a couple off the rivets on the grill Brackets and two other rivets, most off the original rivets remain.

 

it looks like the bracket one side of the grill was misaligned at the factory.  Here are a few. Photos. The

Much easier to remove in pieces.
Splitting the lamp housings off gives more wiggle room.
I could not remember if the center support had rivets and bolts or just bolts
Do you have some of the fake rivets?
