Got a buddy thats doing some work on 65,000 mile completely original one owner 72 402 4 speed SS (U code).  The car has spent a lot of time in storage and is in great shape.  Owner just wants to drive it more now and wants it looked over and made safe for driving, fluids, belts, brakes etc.

One of the first things he found was a crack just above the passenger side lower control arm.  I have never seen an A body frame crack there and suspect it's the result of a past accident. He'll talk to the owner tomorrow.

Question is has anyone ever seen an A body frame crack in this location?

I have seen a few Corvettes in those years that cracked there. We welded them up with no problem. Just make sure the pieces are where they belong before welding.

Hard landing from a wheel stand ? I had a '70 ex-race car that was cracked in the same place. It appears something has shifted too, from the gap. He might want to take it to a frame shop and have it checked before welding. If it needs to be tweaked, they should be able to do that and then weld and possibly plate it.
