Finally getting around to assembling this thing. Here are some specs: 1969 396 block bored 30 over, 1967 215 closed chamber heads with stock valve sizes and minor intake porting. Keith Black small dome pistons that puts compressions at 10.2:1. Lunati voodoo cam 227/233 duration and 542/554 lift. Crane roller rocker arms with stock 3/8 pushrods. Don't think he wants to dyno it so will have no idea on actual power but expect it should be 400 horse range.

Nice!  So basically a 402 that's bumped up a little over stock?  Is he going with headers or exhaust manifolds?

The 402 I had Competition Engines rebuild the heads with a mild cam was 357 hp/370 ft lbs torque through manifolds, so if he's using headers I think your 400 hp is probably pretty close.  I'm sure you will tweak everything out of it though.  notworthy

What headers ? I bought the 2" primary Hedman's and proceeded to butcher them to actually fit the '66 chassis...banghead

The used Hookers that were in there fit much better but all the recent reviews on Thomas claimed they sucked...dunno

All the reviews for Doug's rave about fit but I'm not spending $750 for headers.

Domed pistons is the only way to get any kind of compression on a small bore 396.

I don't remember what the headers are that he bought. They are used from craigslist and already have been beat in spots to fit.

Things have been going slow, trying to get a house project done at the same time. Got it mounted in the running stand and hoping to maybe fire it on the 25th of this month. Getting excited to hear it come to life.

It's alive!!!! Fired it off yesterday and broke in the cam. Everything went well no odd noises and had good oil pressure. Pulled the valve covers to install the inner springs and everything looks good and oil was nice and clean. Hoping to drop the motor and trans into the car this coming weekend.

Don't you love it when a plan comes together! I don't think anyone had any doubts on your workmanship.

Worked on it most of the weekend. Finished up the brakes and bleed them out so it can now be stopped when rolling it. Engine and transmission are bolted in the car. Installed the floor shifter and got it working. Need to have a driveshaft made as the one he has it for a th350 car not a th400. One minor set back as the power steering pump appears to be bad out of the box so have to get it warrantied. Still have lots of wiring to do but that may have to wait a bit as I need to catch up on some other projects. But it is slowly starting to look like a car again.
