Rebuild of 12 bolt and painted with Spray-Max K2
Permalink

Well I decided to rebuild my spare 66 12 bolt and put in 307 gears.  Turning out a little more costly, since I had the axel tubes checked for straightness and that was $175.  When I get done it looks like I will have $600 into the rebuild/paint (no brake parts, drums,  lines, or cylinders).  I took the posi apart and re-shimmed according to Tom's differential, found some original nos ring gear bolts, put in new pinion and carrier bearings and races along with installing new axel bearing & seals, etc. I cleaned the whole thing and sanded down.  I decided to use a Spray-Max K2 epoxy primer and a Spray- Max epoxy hot rod semi-gloss black.  I also stripped the backing plates and used the epoxy paint on them.  I set the pinion depth and backlash along with the gear pattern before all the cleaning and painting.  Now I just have to put the pinion, carrier, and axel back in.  I like the Spray- Max, it covered good, a little expensive and  you have to use it all in a short period of time, so any left over goes in the trash. Since I was using a used set of gears, I basically looked for a good coast pattern.

Looks good to me. I hope it all works out for you.

I'm not using your heads, so I need to find a time to get them back to you.

 I don't remember what Chris said...a little over 100 ?

I went a different route with the engine. Getting new pistons with altered pin location for zero deck in the block.
