I'm hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction with my Edelbrock. I got the rebuild done, and then in the tuning section, they talk about adjusting the secondaries so they just start to open at 13/32. (See Picture). Alright so I bent the rod so at 13/32 they start to crack open. Then they claim that at WOT the secondaries should be 5 degrees before vertical. Mine are at guesstimating 20 degrees? This is where I struggle, as its a just a mechanical rod. So either you get the secondaries to open at 13/32, or you get them to open sooner and then they are at the 5 degrees at WOT. As far as I can tell, you can't get both of these worlds since there is only so much travel in the throttle linkage, and you can only bend that rod so many ways. I did talk with an Edelbrock rep today, and he was not helpful in the least bit. Basically he said to set them to vertical and not worry about when they start to open. Is this correct?

It's a 1405, (same as the 1406, but mechanical choke). It's completely mechanical secondaries, and so as Mitch said, I'm worried about the secondaries opening sooner than necessary and the Edelbrock rep did not seem to understand this.
Mitch, when you say the ramp, I'm assuming that you are talking about the part that is attached to the rod, that pushes open the secondaries?

OK, I dug out a new Edelbrock and the ramp I referred to has nothing to to do with opening the secondaries, so forget it.
What I see that is different is on the primary shaft, there are 2 linkages that work independent of each other until one tang contacts the other one. You can see the gap between them and a spring in the first pic. In the second, I have opened the throttle until the tang touches and the primaries are open about the measurement of 13/32. I didn't measure it, but the tang in your pic seems to be making contact at idle. It's possible the 2 are bound up and not moving independently and that is why you lengthened the rod to compensate for that.
