327 engine build
Permalink

So I figured I would post a few pics of a motor I am building for a friend of Mike S (oscar). Its a 327 going into a 1966 chevy II. So some specs are motor is 30 over with balanced rotating assembly. Block was 0 decked, rehoned, and crank mains line honed. Heads are factory GM aluminum corvette L98 with just a good valve job and valve spring upgrade. Compression comes in about 10:1, camshaft is an Erson 220/226 with 480/480 lift and a 108 lobe seperation. Is going to have a very lopey idle but should make some real nice torque for a small displacement engine. He is going to dyno it so I will try and get the numbers and post them. If you look close in the background on one of the pictures their is another engine in a bag that will be going into somebody chevelle in the club.dunno

All this talk about engines makes me want to do something about the low compression, smog headed 355 in the '38. I should buy a set of 64cc aluminum heads and see if it wakes up.

Is the engine in the bag going to be painted a matching Blue ??..stirpot

Do you have cam specs and what the dyno numbers were. I want to go roller in my 327 when I get to building the motor for my chevelle.

I will have to look for the cam card. After driving the car I wish I would have dynoed it. When I built this I looked at a lot of dyno charts first. I will need to look for the book but I built this based off a engine that was somewhere around 530HP at the flywheel. The difference they had AFR heads and I have heavily ported 291's. So Id say without those heads and dyno tuning id be at a 50HP loss from them. I know the duration was mid 240's lift was around .580 its mechanical. The desktop dynos say this combo is from 470-500hp depending on the one you use  I am getting a little more lift with 1.52 rockers. I have 11.5 compression with cd ignition it runs amazingly smooth for the cam also magnifies the unique sound.  Big tube headers will give this engine a few more HP I have not switched them yet. Deep grove pulleys are a must and good cooling.

Holy crap that sounds like a wicked little motor. You running it on E-85 with that compression or race gas?

Using 500 HP at the flywheel, that's 1.53 HP per cubic inch!  thumbsup

I think John D. nailed it with the description of "...snotty lil' 327!!"
