I'm leaning towards replacing my gas tank versus hoping draining the tank of old gas and adding fresh would be all I need to do. Car hasn't been driven in 13 yrs or started for about 7. Figure there must be some nasty surprises that would wreak havoc on the gas lines and carb if I tried the drain and refill route. Auto City Classic has 3 tanks and 2 sending untis to choose from. The first tank is Tin/Zinc and looks like the original, the second is ni - terne (sp?) steel and the third is stainless steel. Anyone have experience or suggestions regarding the different tanks? The sending units differ by one having a return line and the other not. I don't believe that my car currently has a return line. Anyone have any feedback regarding either set up for those as well?
I have a tank from them, but havent had it long enough to tell a difference. I definately didn't go stainless, paid around a hundred for it I think? The tank and sender (another hundred or so?) I got are Spectra brand, you can also check with Brake and Equipment warehouse (second opinion?). I think Rock Auto also sells that brand.
check team chevelle, I'm sure there will be some opinions on there.

I have their zinc tank and sending unit in my '70. Can't speak to the fuel gauge function as the dash is mostly wireless from it's racing days. It fit well and doesn't leak. Not sure what else it needs to do...
The return line would be if you have a fuel pump with that capability. If single spigot pump, get a single spigot sender. It was around '71-72 that the epa required the return line to eliminate evaporation into the atmosphere. They also went thru a charcoal canister on the fender well.
