Woke up this a.m. with a wild hair to switch the vert to a 4 speed while I have it torn down, so I listed the TH350 on CL.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/pts/3368306047.html

$250

Let me know if you are interested.

Stan

Pull that hair a little further and go 5 speed. You'll want the OD for cruising. Gonna have to try to keep up with Gearlube...razz

Seriously, with a mild 350 you can use a 5 speed out of an '88 or newer Camaro/Firebird or S10/15 truck and be fine. They are quite reasonably priced too.

Yep, five speed, a five speed will also give you a lower first gear. gearbanger

Ever have one of those hairs get infected?

So are you abandoning the LS transplant idea then? I have a bunch of stuff to build a nice 355 that would could make an easy 400+ horse.

Not sure yet... I'm watching/learning as Dashboard goes through the LS learning process.  I'm going to check compression on the 350 in it now before I pull it.  If it's down, I may have to consider other engine options.  We should talk after that's done.  beers

What would it take to talk you into a T56?

I wish you'd drive my wagon and get a feel for it. I assure you, it's the best-possible option for a manual trans.

I did the T56 conversing in my first Chevelle and then I had the 5 speed. I NEVER used the 6th speed. I would have to be doing 80!! Scott you have yours dialed in which is great. But for the amount of horse power that Stan has at maybe 275 the T5 is the way to go IMO.

Ya I have 3.89:1 gears so 6th gear is usable. It also gets that tank off the line nicely.

It's not a power thing, it's a gearing thing. The T56s came in the LT1-powered F-bodies, which weren't super high power machines or anything.

If you run higher gears you can take advantage of 6th.

oooooh, I wanna build a Caddy 500, put 525-600 lbs-ft to the ground, gear it with 323s and a T56.

Then take it to texas and see how long it takes to cross the state.

You'd learn about aerodynamics about 135 or so. Something about barn doors or bricks or something...

 Around 150 a '70 Chevelle feels like it's floating.

Nope.  Pulled the ad off CL after I figured it would take another $1K to convert, and I need the funds for the floor pans...  So, converting to a manual may happen in Phase II 2014.

Gives you more time to plan and scheme too....thumbsup
