Tranny upgrade done

I've never been totally happy with my tranny since it was built back in about 2001. It was essentially a new unit when I got it, but a stock 700R4 is still weak for a musclecar. I brought it to a place that did all the normal things like band change, vette servo, etc but they never really did anything for a shift kit. Well, I finally coughed up the money and brought it to a real tranny shop in Brooklyn Center: Affordable Transmission. Randy is the owner and he's a really nice guy. I actually got to know him when he worked for Friendly Chev as a service writer for a little while, but he's been doing tranny work for a long time. Randy is also a drag racer with a quick Nova.

he put a Trans-go kit in for me, played with it a little to make sure it worked well, and didn't charge me an arm and a leg to do it. He was quite reasonably priced too. I was contemplating going down to John's shop by Stan, but for the north siders, Randy is a good option, it's a small shop with very personal feel. I'll get to dry-pavement play today but so far, I'm totally happy. Thier website doesn't really mention performance stuff, but he does.

I actually went to his shop yesterday to talk about building an over-drive for my Chevelle. I have a 2004R and a 700R4 and he said to use the 700. He, like me, wants my car to go faster but I may not be able to afford building the tranny, convertor, drive-shaft and TV cable.

Go with the 200R4.  Better shift ratio's, same length as a TH350 so save the $300 on the driveshaft, and use the Bowtie Overdrives carb TV kit for $125 or so, and it's done.  No crossmember changes needed either.  Fits in the rear most holes in the frame.

I can't wait to get mine in for this season.

I got the call from John at Masters (Rosemount) yesterday that my 2004r is ready. Hope to get it in the next week or so. He seems like a great guy. Hopefully the transmission will be a huge upgrade from my old tired Powerglide. Finally some of the thousands of parts seem to be getting down to hundreds of parts. Hope to be back on the road by late June. gearbanger

 Agreed! My 200R4 is awesome!
