Drag Slicks

I'd like to order a set of slicks and cheap rims for the track this year.  I've searched Team Chevelle and it looks like many people are running 28x10x15 on either a 15x8 rim with 4.5" backspace or a 15x10 with a 5.5" backspace.

I borrow a set a drag radials from Jim last year that were 275/60/15 on a 15x8 with 4" back space.  The sidewall bulge would scrape the fender if the suspension was compressed.  I don't know if the extra 1/2 of backspace would solve this, or if I should look at a 9" slick to be safe?

I don't want to end up with $400 in tires that don't fit.  What are you guys running?

You should have taken BOTH of Craig's slicks in Jan, then you'd be all set. ;)

I've tried to get that tire to fit, but I can't find a 18" body lift for a Chevelle. laughing  If I ever do, watch out.  I'll show up at one of your pro-touring events with my one big tire and whoop everyone in the left handers, sprint car style.

Thanks Tony, if you had to trim a little with a 9" tire, I'm not sure how people are fitting 10" and 10.5" tires without trimming.

I have some 2" higher springs off my car.............

Summit/Jegs has 15X8 rallys with 5" backspace for under $80 each.

More backspace on the wheel. 5.5 will fit.

Steve, I think the 4.5" backspace with 8" wheel will help you. Like Mitch said need to find the max back space to get good fit. The ones I had were 4" and there was slight rub another 1/2" will help. If it were me for drag I would go 10" with 5.5 spacing.

I've got a set mounted up that won't fit my car...so you're welcome to test-fit them. If they work for you, we'll talk more. Come & get 'em..
