I already have a nice Mallory Unilite distributor, coil, protector with the correct wires. Literally EVERY race car out there has some sort of MSD unit in them. It appears their real benefit is 3,000rpm and below if I am reading that right but the benefits are there none-the-less.

John E, you still got that MSD 6A? I have never really run my car much over 6,000rpm (OK, once or twice by accident but that is all) so I wouldn't think I would need the limiter feature of the 6AL?

I barely have room to install it on the passenger's side but yes, there is just enough room for "one more thing".

It is a fairly inexpensive unit plus there are used ones out there. My Mallary Unilite has full diagrams for wiring it in too. I know it adds another layer of complexity in my ride but hey, if there is a possible benefit won't we go after another tenth at the race track or 1 more MPG???

Stick with the Mallory. Ive had the same 20 plus year old Mallory unilite on my car since 1993. Thats getting close to 20 years now since I bought this car and I have no idea how old the distributor and coil was before that. Ive never had a problem with it. Ive seen way more issues with MSD and Accel, and even the GM HEI a lot more then I have had trouble with Mallory. Why mess with what you already have.

These units are fairly inexpensive and there ares 3 or 4 on CL too. I am only looking at "adding" the "MultipleSparkDischarge" unit to my existing setup so yes, keeping the Mallory Unilite as well.

The MSD box wouldn't replace the Mallory. It would be in addition to it. There are some definate benefits to the MSD. Mutiple sparks for one, smoother running, and better mpg.

I just listed one on evilbay. Darren, if you bid and win, I'll deliver it to the Jan meeting free of charge!

The Mallory units are a photo-eye and I had 2 fail in the mid seventies. I still have the 3rd replacement that worked when I sold the engine in '81. I have a Pertronix III in my Camaro and I prefer it for dependability. It also provides a multiple spark. I'm planning on getting another for the original distributor from my LS5 and installing that in the '66 to replace the OEM HEI.
